Summary: Transversal skills may be acquired through non-work or leisure activities or through participation in education or training. These skills can be learned in one context and transferred to another context. Transversal skills and key competences discussed in this module include ‘traditional’ skills such as literacy, numeracy, digital skills, as well as horizontal skills such as self expression, team working, self management, organizational coordination, ability to adapt to change and cultural awareness. Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. Without strong communication skills, it is almost impossible to make yourself understood, to understand others, or to persuade and influence effectively.

Thus, within the framework of intercultural operational manners cultural differences are discussed with the focus on low context and high context cultures as well as guidelines for verbal and non-verbal communication are set.
